Almost everyone is familiar with the
sound of traditional wedding vows. For
some people, traditional vows are the
only sort that will do. Here are a few
samples.
EXAMPLES OF TRADITIONAL VOWS
I,
<Bride/BrideGroom>, take thee <BrideGroom/Bride>,
to be my lawful wedded <wife/husband>,
to have and to hold from this day
forward, for better or for worse, for
richer, or for poorer, in sickness and
in health, to love and to hold; and to
be faithful together until death do us

We are gathered here today to celebrate

making a pledge to each other, to be
true, faithful, loving and devoted to
one another. These two people now wish
to be united, to share their life, to
share their joy. If anybody has any
reasons why they should not be lawfully
united, please let them speak now or
forever they shall hold their peace. On
this day, Who will step forward and give
this woman to be married to this man
standing before us?
Parents:
We both do.
The bride is now given away.
Celebrant to the BrideGroom:
<BrideGroom Name>, On this day, will you
take <Bride Name> to be your lawful
wedded wife, to live, to support her in

matrimony? Will you show love,

Celebrant:
May this ring be blessed to those who
wear it, showing each other the true
value of marriage by wearing it every
day and every night.
Bride: Now places the ring on the
BrideGroom's finger:
With this ring I thee wed. Wear it as a
symbol of our love to one another, as a
symbol of my long-lasting and truthful
commitment.
Celebrant:
May this couple keep their promise to
one another, sharing the true value of
life in each other's arms. May they be
united in matrimony together, allowing
them to feel nothing but complete.
<BrideGroom
Name> and <Bride Name> have agreed to
wear this ring as a symbol of their love
and in front of family and friends as
witnesses, I now pronounce them to be
husband and wife.
Celebrant: (to the Bride and
BrideGroom):
You may now kiss each other, to begin
your married life together.

Please note:
Legal
wording
has been
left out of these ceremonies. Without
the necessary legal wording required by
the Marriage Act 1961, this ceremony may
be used as a good commitment ceremony.
